Description

A serene meditation portrait of Swami Achalananda (Kedar Baba), a direct monastic disciple of Swami Vivekananda and a revered Vice-President of the Ramakrishna Math and Mission from 1938-1947.

Born Kedarnath Moulik, he received sannyasa from Swami Vivekananda in 1902. Swami Achalananda was instrumental in the setting up of Ramakrishna Mission Home of Service in Varanasi, ably assisting Charuchandra Das (later Swami Subhananda) in this pioneering effort of actualizing the 'Service of God in Man'. as enunciated by Swami Vivekananda. Pleased with his dedicated service, Swami Vivekananda remarked: “You will not have to do any spiritual practice. You will attain spiritual realization spontaneously.”

He was elected a Trustee in 1910 and later served as Vice-President of the Order from 1938 until his passing in 1947.
