This volume briefly presents eleven significant Parvas, marking the end of Karna and Shalya's lives. Grandfather Bhishma fulfills his two formidable vows and awaits the northward passage of the sun while lying on a bed of arrows. During this time, he imparts teachings on Dharma and politics to Yudhishthira, who reluctantly accepts the crown and performs the Ashwamedha Yajna as atonement for the violence of the war. Dhritarashtra, Gandhari, Kunti, and Vidura depart for the forest hermitage forever. Sri Krishna protects Abhimanyu's son, Parikshit, witnesses the destruction of his entire lineage, and departs for Vaikuntha. After ruling the kingdom justly for thirty-six years, the Pandavas also embark on their long journey to heaven. Amidst the various ups and downs of power and ambition, this great epic ultimately proves that in the end, Dharma and Truth prevail.
