This commemorative volume is an attempt to draw our attention to the personality and ideas of Sri Ramakrishna (1836-86) on his 175th birth anniversary. Sri Ramakrishna was a thoroughly spiritual person. However, only those aspects of his ideas have been focused here with which we can engage on an intellectual and emotional level.
The contributors include monks of the Ramakrishna Order as well as internationally acclaimed thinkers. The essays are compiled loosely under six basic themes, namely: The life and Times of Sri Ramakrishna; Sri Ramakrishna: The Man and His Personality; Sri Ramakrishna’s Ideas; Sri Sri Ramakrishna Kathamrita as a text; Sri Ramakrishna and Our Times; and Perspectives on Sri Ramakrishna. Of these, the concluding section contains articles by young scholars. Most of these essays were presented by the contributors at an International Seminar held at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math on 19, 20 & 21 January 2012.
